We are an import and wholesale business, who works in partnership with producers in Latin America, Africa and Asia, according to the criteria for fair trade.

We, and most of our suppliers, are members of WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization). This is a worldwide organization who works for more fair and sustainable world trade.

About The House of Fair Trade

The House of Fair Trade is an import and wholesale business. We work in partnership with Fair Trade producers, who are economically and environmentally sound for both artisans and consumers.

Through successful business, we want to show that fair trade is mutually beneficial. Our profit is not for private interests. It is for developing the business according to international criteria for Fair Trade.

Along with a majority of our suppliers we are part of the world wide umbrella organization WFTO, (World Fair Trade Organization.) All members of WFTO, including us has agreed to work for fair trade based on commonly agreed principles, always with the producers in Latin America, Africa and Asia in focus.

History

The House of Fair Trade started in 2001 on the initiative of the Swedish World Shop Association. The association and its members, 40 detached World Shops, wanted their own import organization. An organization that should guarantee delivery and access to both crafts and food from the third world, according to international fair trade criteria.

The House of Fair Trade is the oldest and youngest company in the branch. The oldest because of experience and knowledge from the oldest world shop in Europe, Alternativ Handel that started in Gothenburg 1969, and from the first wholesale organization in Europe, Fair Trade Originale in Holland.

The House of Fair Trade has had a tremendous success and development. Through sale at world shops, gift shops, grocer´s and so on. The company has multiplied the turnover since its beginning. Today you can see an increased demand from other shops in Sweden, but also in Denmark, Finland and Norway.

Vision

The House of Fair Trade AB should be the obvious choice and the model for fair trade products in Scandinavian countries in order to contribute to the expansion of Fair Trade.

Our business concept

The House of Fair Trade operates in accordance with international fair trade criteria. As a wholesaler we offer distributor and retailers in Scandinavian countries a wide range of fairly traded consumer goods to high quality. The consumer goods are carefully selected on the basis of substantial experience and knowledge.
